When selecting a contractor look for a rapport. Is he/she professional, punctual and respectful? Does he/she communicate effectively? Does he/she have industry knowledge and experience?

According to the State of California Contractors Board:

  • Hire only Licensed Contractors
  • Check the contractor’s license status and history at www.cslb.ca.gov or by calling 1-800-321-CSLB (2752)
  • Get at least three references and review past work
  • Review insurance, workman’s compensation and general liability. Make sure they are up-to-date.
  • Be sure the contractor has experience - and most importantly - specializes in the work you want performed
  • Be willing to provide a detailed description of the scope of work
  • Contractor will guarantee the work
  • All verbal Contractor representations are in writing
  • A fair agreed upon deposit up front
  • Final payment not required until work is complete
