I met Bruce in 2002 in search of a general contractor to build my home on Pacific Coast Hwy. He was recommended as one of the best builders in Huntington Beach, someone I should absolutely consider. In the end it was an easy choice. He was easy to talk to, had built a number of other high-end homes on PCH that had come out beautiful, kept the number of homes he was building at a time down to just a few (so he could concentrate on them), and knew what he was doing.I have to say I’ve heard plenty of contractor horror stories from others who had built homes. I was definitely uncertain of the path and had never done it before. On top of that I was working 70-hour weeks as a CFO for a public company going through its most difficult history.Bruce made the process easy. As prepared as you think you are in knowing what you want, there are hundreds and hundreds of decisions to make and they either build on one another, need to be decided relatively quickly to keep the project going, or both. It would have been easy to be over-whelmed by the scope of everything that needed to be done. But, Bruce didn’t let that happen. He let me know the things I had to decide in 3 weeks and those I needed to decide next week. I usually met him once a week toward the end of the week and he gave me my “homework” for the weekend. Then I’d either call him back on Monday with the decisions or let him know next time we met.Bruce doesn’t build houses. He builds homes. His attention to detail and his management of the subcontractors was superb. His keen eye kept the job running right. He was organized, offered helpful advice, and helped me determine where it was worth spending the extra money and where it wasn’t.I moved into the home with my fiancé in January 2004. Even now, after nearly 6 years, I am still amazed how beautiful our home is. I am a lucky man.In the end, Bruce was not only a general contractor. Through the building process, I got to know Bruce: I like him and I respect him. He became such a friend that I asked him to stand up with me when I got married. Yes, he built the incredibly beautiful home that my wife and I now share with our two boys. And he built it with care and honor, as if he was building it for himself. In a way he did. Bruce Roeland is by far the best, most capable builder in town. I have known Bruce both personally and professionally since 1990. In 1999 I was fortunate to work with him as the seller’s representative on two three story custom homes he built on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach.
